If you follow the story. 4 was 10 years after events from 1 and 2
(1978). Apparently Laurie had a daughter after 2, put her up for
adoption, faked her death and moved to California. Hence 4,5, and 6
cover the daughter story. Then 7(H20) picks up 20 years after 1 and
ignores the events of 4,5, and 6 and we see Laurie married/divorced in
California and had a son according to the story and then Laurie fights
Michael in 7, thinks she kills him only to have him finally get her in 8
(Resurrection).
